Starting pitcher Mat Latos #38 of the San Diego Padres pitches against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the Major League Baseball game at Chase Field on September 1, 2010.
Padres pitcher Mat Latos could miss an Opening Day start with a sore shoulder, The North County Times reports.
At the very least, Latos will miss Saturday’s scheduled start after reporting shoulder soreness earlier in the week, manager Bud Black said.
Black said Latos skipped Wednesday’s bullpen session, and he didn’t give a timetable for the right-hander’s return. Latos last pitched Monday night, throwing 90 pitches in four-plus innings.
