A teacher at a Rancho Penasquitos elementary school was shot with an air gun, according to San Diego police.

Officers were on the grounds of Park Village Elementary looking for a suspect. Early reports said the shot came from the canyon around the school.

The school, which borders Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, was not in lockdown according to police spokesperson Gary Hassen.

A news helicopter showed children walking to and from classrooms on campus with teachers while officers and other adults searched the yard and areas around the school.

Officers did not find any suspects and the staff member was not injured.

The school's principal sent an e-mail to parents saying the person shot was an ESS staff member.
