Pedestrian Hit and Killed on Freeway: Oceanside

A driver hit and killed a pedestrian on a freeway early Monday morning in Oceanside.

The accident happened just after midnight on northbound Interstate 5, just north of Harbor Drive, according to CHP.

The pedestrian, a man in his forties, died at the scene. The driver, a man in his twenties, got out to check on the pedestrian and was then hit by a BMW. He suffered minor injuries and lacerations to his face.

It remains unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway, but alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to CHP. The investigation is continuing to identify the pedestrian.
