New restrictions to protect marine life off the coast

A state task force is recommending new protections for marine life along the Southern California coast, including San Diego.

The protections include controversial new fishing restrictions off La Jolla, Encinitas, Imperial Beach and other county spots.

Outside of San Diego, the main areas of controversy are off the coast of Malibu, Palos Verdes and Laguna Beach.

The recommendaiton now goes to the state Fish and Game Commission.
