New Grocery Store Opening in Point Loma

Point Loma is getting a new grocery store.

Jensen’s Foods, a small grocery chain based out of San Bernardino County, plans to open at the site of the former Fresh & Easy market at 955 Catalina Blvd.

An original plan called for a CVS to occupy the space, but a number of Point Loma residents opposed that proposal, gathering signatures to stop it.

Jensen’s Vice President Matt Zack said Friday the store plans to open sometime in the next six months, as staffers plan to add a kitchen, deli, meat and produce departments.

A specific opening date has not yet been set.

Zack said Jensen’s received court approval earlier this week to acquire the space.

Jensen’s has eight locations already in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The chain specializes in homemade baked goods and fresh meat, seafood and produce.
