Man Attempts to Kidnap Child

The man engaged the boy in conversation before the boy ran to nearby Chet Harritt Elementary School

    Sheriffs deputies are providing extra patrol units near a Santee school today after an attempted kidnapping that happened Thursday afternoon.

    Deputies said a young boy was approached by a man driving a brown sedan around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Prospect Road and Mesa Street in Santee.

    That man engaged the boy in conversation before the boy ran to nearby Chet Harritt Elementary School.

    The boy immediately notified staff, who called the sheriff's department.

    A description of the suspect hasn't been released and deputies are still investigating.
