What will the jobs of the future look like?

Ten years ago there was no such thing as a "social media consultant," 20 years go there wasn't even an Internet.

And, chances are, the job you have now will not exist in the future. at least, not in its current state.

The Internet has certainly been a game-changer, and in the future, it'll continue to play a major role.

"Social networking, and strategy around social networking and finance. We see a lot of brands and companies today who are trying to figure out how to make money in the social networking space," says Tiffany Jones, president of xiagency.com.

We've seen companies pop up on Facebook, but more and more the use of social media, even creating apps for phones and tablets, will be crucial for companies to stay afloat.

Consider a job of the future as a social network strategist, or a social networking financial advisor, and if you're really tech savvy, create a new way to protect data.

Communications has changed quite a bit in just the last few years. Now a lot of people are communicating only through their computers.

And if you think space exploration is a thing of the past with the last shuttle mission, think again.

Virgin Galactic is a private company within Richard Branson's Virgin Group. It plans to provide sub-orbital spaceflights to the paying public, along with suborbital space science missions and orbital launches of small satellites.

Further in the future Virgin Galactic hopes to offer orbital human spaceflights as well.

"We have build our vehicles. They're up in Mojave California. We have a two stage system," according to William Pomerantz, VP Special Projects, Virgin Galactic.

Talk about jobs of the future. Consider this: a day when not only can you travel to space, but stay there and shop, too.

"I know there are a number of commercial entities right know that are looking at commercial space stations, including a lot of these inflatable space stations, which allow quite a large volume for people to work in and to play in, and they're going to need the architects who can smartly divide that it into functional spaces," according to Pomerantz.

Science will be a key field in the future. Not only in the air, but on the ground as well.

"The way we ride is constantly changing. The technology that brought us hybrids and electric cars is still progressing for whatever next new thing comes along, and it's happening right here in Southern California.

"We have an advanced technology center that's in Torrance, and it's been there for a number of years," says Richard James, General Motors, Western Region.

The jobs of the future may be only mere days away as advances in science, technology and medicine are happening every single day.

The question is, will you be ready to jump on board and get to work?
