A 49-year-old man was identified as the victim of an early morning crash on Saturday which occurred on a highway near Miramar Way, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The victim, identified as Silvano Nicholas Calva, was traveling northbound in a Lincoln Navigator at about 2:24 a.m. on Interstate 15 in Escondido, said CHP officials. Calva was the only person in the vehicle.
The accident happened when, for unknown reasons, the Lincoln Navigator left the roadway, striking the east side rail and then slamming into a sign pole, according to CHP officials.
911 was called and paramedics arrived, though despite their efforts Calva was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Saturday afternoon, an examination of Calva’s body had yet to be scheduled, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner's office.
