San Diego Fire Rescue responded to a small brush fire in the Miramar Ranch North area Thursday evening.

Officials said the fire sparked around 5:45 p.m. just east of northbound Interstate 15 between Mira Mesa Boulevard and Scripps Poway Parkway.

The small fire began at the base of a tree and had little movement, according to fire officials.

A helicopter was immediately called to the scene to make water drops. The flames were quickly contained before the spot fire could spread, fire authorities confirmed.

No structures were threatened during the fire and no injuries were reported.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
