San Diego firefighters battled a brush fire in City Heights near Manzanita Dr. and 39th St. shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
The fire broke out in a canyon surrounded by several homes around 2:20 p.m.
San Diego police officers evacuated homes on Manzanita Dr., along the canyon's northern rim, as a precaution.
The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes.
About three acres were destroyed, investigators said.
No injuries were reported.
