Firefighters were sent out to an area near state Route 52 in Santee on Wednesday.
The call went out shortly after 1 p.m. for crews to check out the report of a blaze just north of Grossmont College near the intersection of Rancho Fanita and Big Rock Drives. By 1:45 p.m., the fire was all but completely out. A hillside was charred by fire, and aerial drops were being made by chopper. The fire burned about 3 acres, according to officials.
No structures were threatened by the blaze, which took place across a street and a dirt road from the closest homes.
