A Border Patrol agent was injured Wednesday morning when his marked vehicle lost control on a wet South County roadway and struck a vehicle head-on, the U.S. Border Patrol reported.

The 28-year-old agent, whose name has not been released, collided with a 2000 Nissan Altima about 6:30 a.m. on eastbound state Route 94 east of Otay Lakes Road.

The agent's vehicle was traveling westbound when it lost control and crossed over a solid double yellow line into eastbound traffic.

Both the agent and the Nissan driver, Jorge Salas, 43 of Tecate, Mexico, were transported to a hospital.

Neither of the parties suffered life-threatening injuries. The most serious injury was a broken bone suffered by Salas, a Border Patrol official said.

SR-94 was temporarily closed for clean up and investigation.
