1 Seriously Injured in Head-on Crash

A wrong-way driver suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash near the San Diego State University campus Wednesday night.

San Diego police said a pickup truck and a black SUV were both turning left onto Montezuma Road from southbound Campanile Drive at about 8:20 p.m.

However, a 27-year-old driver in a white Solar City car was driving west in the eastbound lanes of Montezuma, and he hit the two other cars.

The crash left the wrong-way driver trapped inside. Once emergency crews rescued the patient, they took him to Scripps Mercy Hospital for serious injuries.

The pickup truck driver was uninjured, and the SUV driver suffered minor injuries. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, officials say.

Traffic has been shut down at Montezuma Road as they investigate.
