Pete Wentz Shaves Head for “Death to Emo” ‘Do

Fall Out Boy bassist gets buzz cut on stage

It was sheer genuis -- a la Britney Spears.

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz declared a "death to emo" of sorts when he shaved his head on stage during a gig in New York City over the weekend -- lopping off his signature dark locks that he styled and spiked with gobs of gel.

"This is the death of the emo haircut," he told fans at a show at  Madison Square Garden, according to MTV.

Wentz approached the microphone before his band launched into "Saturday" and said he was "going to need a drink," according to NME.com.

"So you guys know Jay-Z's "Death of Auto-Tune,' right?" he asked. "This is the death of the emo haircut."

Wentz then took a seat as Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus approached him with a razor and began to shave off the singer's signature locks.

After the show the newly buzzed bassist said the gig was "amazing."

"I'm more aerodynamic," he posted on his Twitter page.
