What About Bill? Murray Playing North County Show

Everybody's favorite funnyman is headed San Diego's way for a music show this fall.

Forget that Dos Equis guy -- everybody knows Bill Murray is the most interesting man alive, which explains why the film and TV star is releasing his first album of music, which will be supported by a summer/fall tour, including a stop scheduled for North County.

Murray's got a tour date -- one of 13 the website Consequence of Sound posted Monday -- pegged for Dec. 1 in Escondido at the California Center for the Arts, where he will perform with the German-born cellist Jan Vogler. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 18, but if fans become a member of the arts center now, they can take advantage of member sales.

Not long ago, the zany star of "Ghostbusters" and "Saturday Night Live" revealed plans to release his first album of music, "New Worlds," in September. Then, on Sunday night in Germany at the Dresden Music Festival, Murray performed, treating the crowd to a Van Morrison cover as well as music from the upcoming project, the website reported.

The website also reported that "New Worlds" will serve up Murray reading pieces from giants of the American literary pantheon, including Mark Twain and Walt Whitman backed by classical musicians, as well as contributing vocals to classics like "It Ain't Necessarily So," by George Gershwin.

It's not Murray's first foray into things musical, of course. Longtime fans will recall several musical performances by Murray, including the unforgettable "Star Wars" theme delivered on SNL back in the '70s.

The tour kicks off on July 20 in with other performances scheduled for Chicago and New York, as well as more California shows in Palo Alto, Palm Desert, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Arcata.

Why Escondido? It seems an odd choice, but one needs to remember the comedian was reportedly seen in that city's Kit Carson Park late one night last July, possibly after taking in the All-Star Game at Petco Park.
