The body found in Tecolote Canyon on Tuesday has been identified as a 19-year-old San Diego man, according to the medical examiner's office.
Ayo Rebel Wharton's body was discovered by a man walking his dog on a dirt trail near Olser Road in Tecolote Canyon Wednesday morning. The man called 911, and officials pronounced Wharton dead on the scene.
The victim had trauma wounds consistent with an assault, according to San Diego police.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
