Padres Bullpen Gets Shelled Again

Relief corps lets another close game get out of hand in lost to Giants

On Friday night in San Francisco the Padres got a better than average start from Dinelson Lamet, who gave up two earned runs and struck out 10 hitters in five innings. They got a pair of hits, including a home run, from Manny Machado. Even catcher Austin Hedges, who is not fleet of foot, got a triple.

And yet the Friars lost 8-3 to the Giants because, as has been the case far too many times this year, their bullpen got torched.

Actually one member of it did. After Michel Baez tossed a scoreless 6th inning Robbie Erlin came on and allowed singles to five straight hitters. He ended up allowing five runs, which was way too much for the San Diego offense to get back.

The Padres send lefty Joey Lucchesi to the mound on Saturday evening against Giants starter Logan Webb.
