The I Marine Expeditionary Force welcomed a new Deputy Commanding General Monday.
Brigadier General David W. Coffman assumed duties as the second-in-command of the Marine Corpsβ warfighting Marine Air-Ground Task Force. He will oversee 50,000 Marines and sailors.
Coffman, a Naval Aviator, recently served as Deputy Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command in Norfolk, Va. He also served as Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces South.
During that time, he oversaw all Marine activities in Central and South America.
He also spent from 2008 to 2011 serving as the Commanding Officer of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Force. He deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of combat operations.
