Firefighters Battle Brush Fire Near San Marcos

Firefighters will watch over the area Monday because high temperatures are expected again.

A brush fire threatened homes and destroyed vehicles Sunday in a small cul-de-sac near San Marcos.

Cal Fire and North Comm Fire crews tackled the flames threatening three homes on Esplendido Avenue at midnight.

The fire was contained in about half an hour but a big challenge for crews was poor access to the area. The homes are located on a one way road. Crews could not all of their equipment down the road. Also, the vegetation and wood chips in the area fed the fire, officials said.

No homes were damaged. Two vehicles were destroyed. One of those vehicles was a pickup truck, officials said.

San Marcos wasn't the only community threatened by fire Sunday. Homes in Encinitas were evacuated after fire broke out in the evening.
