Going for a Ride: Transit Fares Hiked

Trolley, bus rates double in some cases

Think your bus fare is already expensive? Think again.

The Metropolitan Transit System is increasing fares starting July 1.

How much, you ask? Adult monthly pass holders will now pay $72; $36 for kids and students, and $18 for seniors/disabled/Medicare passengers. The Downtown Trolley Zone one-time fare will double, up to $2.50 (as are all other one-way fares). The 904 bus line will increase from $1 to $2.25 as well.

Running into the triple digits, the monthly Premium Express commuter pass will increase from $90 to $100. The Premium Day Pass will be replaced by the RegionPlus Day Pass and increase from $11 to $14.

Why the increases? The MTS released a news release explaining that the hikes are due to a budget deficit caused by the elimination of State Transit Assistance funding.
