Animals Rescued from Abandoned Ranch

When Escondido police arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident, the animals at the woman’s home were left without a caretaker. Now, someone is stepping in to move those animals to a Los Angeles area sanctuary.

Goats roam freely on the property at Tiffany St. Ives' home in Valley Center, according to our media partners the North County Times.

St. Ives was arrested two months ago and charged with hitting and killing Marlene Resendiz, 17in an accident on Nov. 24, 2007. Resendiz was just weeks from her wedding when she was killed while legally crossing Grand Avenue at Fairdale.

After St. Ives was taken into custody, an animal welfare groups stepped in to help care for the animals on her ranch. The list includes more than 110 goats, 30 or so chickens, seven cows, six pigs, two horses and a donkey, according to the paper.

On Wednesday, animal rescuer Lorri Houston told the paper that she will take all the animals – who haven’t been fed regularly and show signs of mange and sores -- to her 26-acre rescue ranch in Acton.
