The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) will be sending more than 13,000 personal computers home to students starting in the fall.
The take home computer program is being expanded within SDUSD.
Starting with Salk Elementary, more than 40 schools across the district will be giving children computers to take home with them in the fall.
Hosting the first of its occasional #FollowFriday Technology Days, School Board President Mike McQuary and Trustee Kevin Beiser joined San Diego Unified Superintendent Cindy Marten and Chief Innovation Officer Dan Stoneman to make the announcement at Salk Elementary on Friday.
The first class of kindergarteners completed their school year learning on computers at home and in the classroom at Salk Elementary.
Funding for the program was announced by Superintendent Marten as part of her 2016-17 school budget released this week. This school budget is expected to be up for vote on June 28.
