Assault Victim Thrown Out of Car at 50 MPH

A La Mesa man showed up to work at a catering event at Qualcomm Stadium and ended up under arrest, accused of kidnapping and raping a woman just hours earlier before throwing her out of his car on the interstate.

According to La Mesa police investigators, Damarest Dunn Sr., 33, of La Mesa met a woman in San Diego Tuesday night and drove her back to his home in the 7100 block of Waite Drive.  He then allegedly held the woman against her will at gunpoint and raped her.

Wednesday at 2:30 a.m., several drivers called 911 reporting a woman thrown out of a car on I-8 near Fletcher Parkway.  The car was going 50 mph at the time. When police arrived they found a 30 year old woman who told them the suspect opened the passenger door of his vehicle and threw her out without stopping.

Officers took the woman to a nearby trauma unit where she was checked and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Dunn works for a party rental business that had an event at Qualcomm Stadium Wednesday afternoon. Law enforcement officers showed up at that site and took him into custody.

La Mesa police say Dunn will be charged with rape, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
