Practice for the the spectacular Red Bull Air Race Championships got under way over San Diego Bay on Wednesday.
The two-day event starts May 9 and will likely draw huge crowds as it has in the past/
San Diego is in the company of some of the most exotic and sophisticated cities in the world when it comes to the Red Bull Air Race Championships. From Abu Dhabi to Budapest to Barcelona, San Diego is right in there as a premier location for one of the most anticipated events of the year.
Anybody near the bay is likely to get a heart-stomping preview of one crazy event. Last year, the crowds were so big that one of the site locations was closed off. With the likes of celebrated pilots Bonhomme, Ivanhoff and Chamblis showing off their speed, precision and skill in the skies above, shooting in and out of those flailing pylons, it's bound to be another breath-taking weekend.
All of the action will take place with San Diego's stunning downtown skyline as the backdrop. If the weather is sunny, make sure you bring plenty of sunscreen and sunglasses to protect your skin and to get the best view as your head tilts toward the sky.
