A Navy jet made an emergency landing in San Diego Tuesday night, according to Navy officials.

The F/A-18 was training with the aircraft carrier Nimitz Tuesday about 100 miles off the San Diego Coast when it was diverted, said Navy Lt. Aaron Kakiel.

It landed safely at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego Tuesday night.

Kakiel did not say why the jet was diverted.

Four years ago, four people died and several homes were damaged when an F/A-18 jet crashed into a San Diego home. A Navy investigation blamed the F/A-18 crash on a series of bad decisions made by the pilot after an engine failure.
