Tech N9ne Welcomes SD to ‘Strangeland'

Tech N9ne will be stopping by at House of Blues San Diego on Thursday.

The rhyme spitter from Kansas City, Mo., has become renowned for his incredible speed-rapping ability. He's able to chop syllables up into extremely fine pieces (his moniker comes from the TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun and its rapid-fire delivery). In recent years, he's gained just as much respect for his business acumen. Since founding his own label, Strange Music, in 1999, Tech N9ne has become widely regarded as the single most-successful independent artist in hip-hop.

The Midwest rapper is making a stop in SD as part of his Lost Cities Tour. The 42-date tour is being used to promote Tech N9ne's upcoming release, Welcome to Strangeland. The latest LP -- and Tech N9ne's second LP release this year, following All 6's and 7's, from June -- is slated to drop Nov. 8. As the fourth installment in Tech's "Collabos" series, Strangeland will feature guests on each track. And true to its name, all the guests will come from the Strange Music roster of artists, including the likes of Brotha Lynch Hung, Jay Rock and many more.

As for the show this Thursday, expect an extremely intense, bizarre, kinda disturbing experience. Tech N9ne shows are absolutely not a joke. He always performs in face paint that leaves him somewhere between a voodoo shaman and a deranged clown (coincidentally, he has become good friends with Insane Clown Posse, who started the deranged clown-esque juggalo movement). And when he performs o-stage, you probably couldn't tell the difference. Just wait until he and his Strange Music cohorts come to an abrupt stop and get into unison double-time rapping with lights flashing frantically and smoke enveloping them. This will look like demon possession and sound like the devil's tongue. But it's not. Well, probably not.
