Having a short memory can be a good thing.
On a day when the Chargers emptied their lockers and packed up their belongings players talked more about the future than the past. "We had a lot of young guys who got a lot of valuable experience," stated the always glass "half-full" Philip Rivers. He added, "I cant see how we won't get better in the next six months and have a chance to be even better next season."
Tight End Antonio Gates was on the same page, "We didn't win a Super Bowl but we've got a lot of good things and we're looking forward to making another run next year."
That kind of thinking must be music to the ears of head coach Mike McCoy. After a 5-7 start critics saw little difference between the 2013 team and its recent predecessors. But unlike years past, McCoy's team got better and won critical games down the stretch to make the postseason. "We evolved as time went on," said the first year head coach. "We kept plugging away and never gave up."
For the first time in a long time a season ending loss doesn't seem so bad after all.
