Politically Speaking: Linkage Fees

It comes up in every survey about what people are worried about in San Diego. The rent is too high. Since 1990, the city of San Diego has charged a fee on companies that build or expand their operations. The idea is that if they are creating jobs that come with low or moderate pay, the employers should have to pay for the housing of the employees their hiring. Housing and jobs are linked. Hence it’s known as a linkage fee. Now, the City Council is considering a big increase to that fee. The VOSD’s Scott Lewis hosts this segment on NBC 7’s Politically Speaking, discussing the topic with Susan Riggs, Felipe Monroig and Andrew Keatts.
