Sinkhole Swallows Heavy Construction Equipment After Storm

A large sinkhole swallowed a piece of heavy construction equipment that was being used to clear roads in the hills north of Malibu following heavy rains on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019.

A large sinkhole that developed in the aftermath of heavy rains in the hills north of Malibu swallowed a large construction vehicle that was excavating debris from the road, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The hole opened up on Yerba Buena Road near Yellow Hill Road in an area just north of Leo Carillo State Park. The driver was rescued safely, but the road will remain impassable for an unknown period of time.
