More than 13 hour have passed since protective security contractors stopped a man in a truck entering a parking garage with a weapon in plain view and wearing body armor for reasons unknown. Beverly White reports for the NBC4 News on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

An armed man who attempted to enter the parking garage of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday was taken into custody.

The man was wearing body armor and was stopped in his white SUV by contracted security officers "who noticed a firearm inside the vehicle," said Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Andra Higgs.

Security personnel discovered the man's car contained multiple loaded firearms and knives, and he was subsequently apprehended by Federal Protective Service inspectors, Higgs said.

The FPS is investigating the matter, with Los Angeles Police Department and FBI personnel assisting.
