Federal search warrants were executed at Adelanto City Hall and other locations. Tony Shin reports for the NBC4 News on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed search warrants early Tuesday at city hall in the San Bernardino County community of Adelanto.

FBI spokesperson Laura Eimiller confirmed the federal search warrants are being executed at Adelanto City Hall and other locations, including a home in Adelanto, located in the Victor Valley area of the Mojave Desert. The affidavits are currently under seal.

The reasons for the search were not immediately clear. She declined to provide additional details because court records supporting the search are sealed.

Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, told The Associated Press that Internal Revenue Service investigators and the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office were also involved.

The Victorville Daily Press reported the city's mayor was seen being led from his home by authorities. Messages were left at City Hall seeking comment.

Adelanto is a desert city of 32,000 people about 60 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
