Actor and comedian Will Ferrell has played a range of characters, from a cow bell-slaying musician on Saturday Night Live to the beer-drinking "Frank the Tank" in the film "Old School."
Off the screen, the 43-year-old's hobbies are a bit more ambitious.
"I hate cancer," Ferrell said. "But I love college."
The man who once played the San Diego-based Ron Burgundy in "Anchorman" is returning to town next week to help raise money for a Los Angeles-based charity, Cancer for College.
The event, which is set for Feb. 5 at Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights, seeks to raise money for cancer patients who need financial help attending college.
The charity is founded by Craig Pollard, a former fraternity brother of Ferrell at the University of Southern California.
Ferrell has already raised $50,000 for the group by auctioning off a role in one of his movies, the organization said.
Local
Besides Ferrell’s funny antics, guests at the sold-out show can look forward to a multi-course meal paired with eight different local-brewed beers, including one inspired by Ferrell called “Will Powered IPA."
As Ferrell said in "Old School": "Once it hits your lips, it's so good."
