New Viejas Hotel Nears Completion

The construction of the largest hotel east of Mission Valley was celebrated in a topping off ceremony Tuesday.

East County residents and employees of Viejas Casino gathered for the event at the soon-to-be-completed Viejas Hotel on Willows Road.

As part of the ceremony, tribal leaders signed a beam to be included at the top of the final building.

The five-story hotel will offer close to 130 rooms in the same area as the casino’s old bingo hall.

Owners of the Viejas Casino hope their new hotel located along Interstate 8 will be used by tourists and locals alike.

The $36 million project first broke ground earlier this year. It should result in an additional 60 hotel jobs for the region.

Opening is slated for spring 2013.
