Driver Loses Hand in Suspected DUI Crash on I-15

NBC 7’s Candice Nguyen reports from Mission Valley where authorities are investigating a violent crash that happened on the Interstate 15 off-ramp near Friars Road.

California Highway Patrol closed down an offramp of Interstate 15 in Mission Valley to look for a crash victim's lost hand Thursday night.

A person suffered life-threatening injuries after slamming into a guardrail on the southbound I-15 offramp to Friars Road, CHP officials said.

A caller reported the driver was reaching high speeds before the crash.

After the driver was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, CHP officers searched for and located the person's hand.

Investigators believe the person was driving under the influence during the crash.
