Teen Escapes Kidnapping in Grant Hill

Samaritan came to assistance of 15-year-old grabbed by man

A 15-year-old girl was grabbed by a man as she was walking along J St. Thursday morning.

UPDATE: Police found and arrested the man they believe attempted to kidnap the girl.

Police said she was crossing J St. at 300 Hoitt St. when the man began following her.

When the suspect grabbed the girl, she screamed and another man ran up to the suspect and began yelling at him.

The suspect fled south on Hoitt St.

The girl then called police at the nearby Kimbrough Elementary School. She was not hurt.

A few hours later, police caught the suspect in the lunch line at the St. Vincent De Paul on Imperial and 16th St.

The officer asked the suspect for his name, but the man gave a false name, according to Officer Dave Gowen. Police later discovered the suspect was on probation.

When they showed the man his booking information, he responded, "I've also been arrested under that name."

The suspect has been arrested, according to a spokesperson with the San Diego Police Department.
