Two immigration officers were involved in a shootout at the Long Beach Federal Building Thursday evening, according to a statement released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer was pronounced dead at the scene and a second was sent to a nearby hospital, according to the statement.
Earlier aerial communications from Long Beach Police described three agents involved in the shooting, and reported that two of them were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim, repeatedly referred to as a man, was reportedly shot in the upper body.
He is being treated at St. Mary's Medical Center, and his vital signs were positive, said Francine Marlenee, speaking on behalf of the hospital.
The suspected gunman is believed to be an ICE agent, police said.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m.Thursday in the seventh floor ICE offices located at 501 W. Ocean Blvd., police said.

More than a dozen police vehicles and at least two fire trucks lined the sidewalks surrounding the heavily-secured building.
The shooting is being investigated by ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility, the Long Beach Police Department and the FBI, according to ICE's statement.
