Salvation Army Preps to Feed Hundreds on Christmas Day

Close to 2,000 people are expected to be served by the Salvation Army at its annual Christmas Day dinner.

“Many people are struggling at this time of year,” Major Lee Lescano, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army said in a written news release.

The tradition of setting up tables in downtown’s Golden Hall was started more than 30 years ago by philanthropist Joan Kroc.

At noon, guests will be served a traditional turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans.

Anyone looking for a warm meal and company is welcome. This can include families with small children or seniors living alone.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. but guests are expected to begin lining up earlier in the morning.

More than 300 volunteers work to put the event on.
