Saluting the Late Army Specialist Lawrence Joel

November 8, 1965 Joel was on routine patrol when his unit fell under heavy gunfire after it was ambushed by the Viet Kong. Joel was the unit’s medic and as men began to fall, it was Joel who continued to run forward to render medical aid. Despite being shot himself he continued to work as gunfire continued for 12 straight hours. He was credited for saving the lives of 13 men that day.
