Power Restored to Thousands in Carlsbad, Rolando

SDG&E reported several large power outages across San Diego Friday evening

Several outages left thousands of residents without power across Carlsbad, La Costa and north Rancho Santa Fe Friday evening.

San Diego Gas & Electric reported a large power outage affecting the Carlsbad region just before 5:30 p.m. The power outage left more than 3,300 customers without service in the area.

Meanwhile, another large power outage was reported in the Rolando and east College Area around 4:45 p.m. That outage affected more than 1,100 customers.

SDG&E also logged a power outage in Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo that affected nearly 600 residents just after 4 p.m., and an outage in south Poway just after 5 p.m. that left more than 400 people without power.

According to SDG&E, all of the outages were caused by suspected problems in the underground and overhead electrical systems.

The company estimated it would take several hours to restore power.

By 7:30 p.m., power had been restored to customers in the Carlsbad region. Residents in Rolando had also gotten power back.

It is unclear if any of the outages are related to the extreme heat wave that hit San Diego Friday.
