Police were chasing a suspected hit-and-run driver in downtown San Diego on November 11, 2020.
A suspected hit-and-run driver led police on a pursuit Wednesday that ended near San Diego International Airport's Rental Car Center after the driver ditched the vehicle.
A four-door white sedan traveled through crowded downtown streets, at times going the wrong way as they evaded police officers. At least three police vehicles were in pursuit of the car as it traveled toward the airport with a blown-out front tire.
Aerial images from SkyRanger 7 showed numerous police vehicles respond to the scene after the sedan came to a stop near the San Diego International Airport's Rental Car Center. The driver appeared to have bailed, instigating a foot pursuit.
Witnesses at the rental car center described the speeding vehicle come to a halt just in front of the center and seeing a man run inside, followed by police on foot.
"He came over [in the car], the cops came and all of a sudden he hit the curb, ran out... and everybody just ducked, it was really scary," one witness told NBC 7.

"He hit the curb so hard and all of us out here just, like, ducked and ran," one witness said. "He ran out of the car, ran in there and all the cops were chasing him."
The car chase started sometime before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Details on where the pursuit was initiated were not immediately clear.
San Diego police said the car was suspected to be involved in a hit-and-run but no further details where provided, including what the driver was suspected of hitting and fleeing.
The driver was taken into police custody at about 1 p.m. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. It was not clear if he would be placed under arrest and what charges he could be facing.
