Man, 76, Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Busy Street in Del Mar

Camino Del Mar was closed in both directions for several hours

A 76-year-old driver was killed after he veered into oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on Monday afternoon in Del Mar.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said the victim veered his Honda CRV into southbound lanes of Camino Del Mar at around 4 p.m. The CRV sideswiped an SUV and collided head-on with a sedan.

Medics attempted to revive the driver of the CRV, identified Wednesay as La Jolla resident Paul Edward Palmer, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Medical Examiner's said.

Two passengers in the sedan, a 28-year-old and a 27-year-old, were both transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Camino Del Mar was closed in both directions near the scene of the crash for several hours.
