Padres Place Renfroe on Disabled List

2nd half of the season starts with several roster moves

The Padres return from baseball’s 4-day All-Star break with a weekend series against the Giants that starts Friday night at Petco Park. Rookie outfielder Hunter Renfroe will not be in the lineup for any of those games.

Renfroe landed on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to July 10) with a strained neck. He felt something tighten in his neck while hitting a double in the 7th inning of last Saturday’s game in Philadelphia and was removed from the lineup. Renfroe is tied for the team lead with 16 home runs and is 2nd on the club with 39 RBI.

The Padres recalled outfielder Jabari Blash from Triple-A El Paso to fill the roster spot.

San Diego also placed relief pitcher Kirby Yates on the paternity list so he could join his wife Ashlee for the birth of their first child. Fellow reliever Jose Valdez was brought up from El Paso while Yates is away.

For Friday night’s game the Padres will hand the ball to left-hander Clayton Richard, one of the many Friars who will likely pop up in trade rumors for the next few weeks. The Giants go with former All-Star Johnny Cueto.
