Water Main Break Floods Streets in North Park

Water service has been restored to people affected when a water pipe broke and flooding streets in North Park Monday.

The break happened around 5 p.m. Water poured down Georgia Street and Florida Court near Balboa Park.

North Park resident TJ Linnard described it as a geyser shooting 20 feet in the air.

“We just didn’t believe it was happening,” Linnard said. “Walked over here and saw the ground crack.”

City water crews turned off the water before 6 p.m. The road was badly damaged, and several apartments flooded.

Water officials said the 50-year-old pipe was removed and replaced. Service was restored and Georgia Street was reopened by 2 a.m.

A section of Florida Court was still closed because of street repairs.
