New School Budget Means Good News

Good news for San Diego elementary school students and teachers came early Friday morning despite budget cutbacks Kindergarten through third grade class sizes will be staying the same.

San Diego's superintendent Bill Kowba made the announcement during a press conference on Friday. Kowba says the district will be restoring Kindergarten to 3rd grade teaching positions.

According to school officials, the district will bring back funding in the 2011/2012 budget to maintain current student/teacher class-size ratios for grades Kindergarten to 3rd grade for one more year.

This comes as a result of the K-12 funding included in the state budget signed by the Governor last week.

Superintendent Bill Kowba's plan will restore the K-3rd grade class size ratios to 24:1 at all schools and maintain a 20:1 ratio at 29 high-poverty schools that currently have that lower ratio.
