Berserk behavior by a man at a North County convenience store set into motion a series of events that ended with a deadly shooting involving a San Diego County sheriff's deputy according to investigators.
The unidentified man was shot and killed on the street around 1:30 p.m. at Oceanside Boulevard and Temple Heights Dr., near Temple Heights Elementary School.
Law enforcement officers were called after the man allegedly struck one customer over the head with a glass bottle at the AM-PM on Melrose Drive.
He also allegedly threw a brick through the window of an occupied car, striking a passenger, according to a statement from the Oceanside Police Department.
"He was in the store, everything's torn apart, everything's all topsy-turvy, it's on lockdown, there's a big hole in the window," witness Reen Bigbey said.
The man also jumped on several cars and stomped on the hoods according to Bigbey.
Then, she said, the man took off and ran down the street.

Oceanside police investigators say the man went about a half mile, to the 4900-block of Oceanside Blvd, when officers and San Diego County sheriff's deputies made contact with him.
"The male suspect reached into the bed of a truck that was parked. He retrieved what we believe to be a stick, possibly a broom handle," said Lt. Joe Young with Oceanside police.
The suspect was shot once in the chest by a sheriff's deputy Young said.
Officers performed CPR in an attempt to save the suspect's life.
At this time, it is unclear exactly how many victims were involved, or whether the deputy was placed on administrative leave but police confirmed there were several victims at the scene.
No officers or deputies were injured in the confrontation, police said.
