A 35-year-old Encinitas resident was killed shortly before midnight Friday after his motorcycle collided with a car.
According to CHP, the deadly crash happened on Interstate 5 near Del Mar.
Hughes, a Sous Chef from Encinitas, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic on southbound I-5 north of Del Mar Heights Road when he rear-ended a Honda Civic sedan, CHP said.
Hughes was thrown from his motorcycle and died.
Witnesses reported Hughes may have been racing with another vehicle on the freeway at the time of the accident.
