Neighbors in the area of the crash are pushing the city to make safety improvements along Washington Avenue.
A woman who was walking with a child near a park in Escondido was hit by a car and killed Tuesday, according to police.
The woman was struck by at least one car near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Rose Street just after 12:30 p.m., the Escondido Police Department said. Washington Park is on the southwest corner of the intersection.
Two vehicles, a truck and a sedan, collided in the intersection and the sedan ended up on the sidewalk. The sedan hit the woman and child as were walking in the east crosswalk on Washington Avenue. The car also took out a pole.
Good Samaritans gave the woman, 45, CPR until medics arrived. She was taken to Palomar Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The child, a 7-year-old boy, was also taken to Palomar with non-life-threatening injuries and was then transferred to Rady Children's Hospital, EPD said.

A witness was seen consoling the boy on the street corner following the accident.
Investigators say the truck, a Nissan Titan, was going east on Washington when it ran a red light and hit a Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Rose Street.
People who live near the crash site say accidents happen there way too often.

A homeowner on the block says part of the damage from his fence is from one of at least 10 recent crashes in the area.
They're hoping the city does something soon, especially because a new skate park opened right across the street.
"When I looked out the window I saw the blue car come up and the boy screaming," neighbor Ryan Johnson said. "This is a safety issue. This is life and death, and now that we have a new skateboard park with all these kids and this young boy almost died and his mother died, they've got to add some safety here, Got to add those left-turn lanes, signals."
Neighbor Bernardo Lopez estimated three or four crashes happen at the intersection every month. He and others want the city to make infrastructure improvements along Washington Avenue
