Marine Found Dead at MCRD

A base spokesperson confirmed few details but did say the person was not a recruit

A U.S. Marine was found dead inside a barracks room at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego early Monday according to a spokesperson for the base.

MCRD is a training facility located near Lindbergh Field.

MCRD spokesperson Janice Hagar said the unidentified Marine was found early Monday. No other details were released.

Hagar said the Marine's gender, age and rank will be withheld however she could confirm the person was not a recruit. She would not say if the death appeared suspicious.

The name will not be released until after notification of next of kin. 

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating. Maj. Michael Armistead said it is too soon to say whether the death was a homicide.
