Electric Scooter Rider Crashes Into Tree, Knocked Unconscious Downtown

NBC 7’s Danica McAdam reports on the collision involving a man on a scooter along 10th near B Street in downtown San Diego.

An electric scooter rider was knocked unconscious when he crashed into a tree on a busy downtown San Diego sidewalk Wednesday night.

The 53-year-old man crashed into a tree along 10th Avenue as he was turning onto B Street just before 10 p.m., the San Diego Police Department said.

The rider was unconscious when first responders arrived. SDPD said his injuries were life-threatening. 

He was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center and his condition as of Thursday morning was not available. 

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the crash. The SDPD traffic division was investigating. 

No other information was available.
