The body of Afghanistan veteran Lieutenant Christopher Mosko returned to San Diego to be laid to rest Thursday.
Mosko's casket arrived at Naval Air Station North Island for a dignified transfer ceremony.
LT Mosko was lifted from the charter jet in a flag draped casket with family members waiting on the tarmac.
His wife Amanda walked up and layed her head on his casket, surrounded by other family members paying their respects.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer, LT Mosko trained for more than a year to become an EOD operator in a rigorous training pipeline.
He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Three for the past three years and during that time he supported humanitarian operations following the earthquake in Haiti.
He was killed in an IED blast in Afghanistan on April 26th of this year, directly supporting Navy and Army special operations forces.

LT Mosko and his wife called San Diego their new home and it was the express wish of the family that LT Mosko be honored and buried here.
LT Mosko was described by his command as a personable and outstanding leader who went out of his way to support his men.
They also said he was a kind and gentle person who will be missed greatly by his EOD community.
A private memorial service for LT Mosko is being held at Liberty Station this afternoon. That will be followed by a military funeral at Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery.
